Indications<\/b>
<\/span>
1. \u00a0\u00a0Patients with angina equivalents who:
<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • \n

    Are considered inoperable or at high risk of operative \/ interventional complications.
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Suffer from micro vascular angina (cardiac syndrome X)
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Have coronary anatomy unsuitable for catheter-based or surgical revascularization.
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Have co-morbid conditions \/ illnesses that increase the risk of revascularization procedures (e.g. Diabetes, heart failure, pulmonary disease, renal dysfunction)
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Have Left Ventricular Dysfunction (LVD) with an Ejection Fraction <35%
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Are unwilling to undergo additional invasive revascularization procedures.
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    No longer respond to medical therapy.
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Restrict their activities to avoid angina.
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Cannot afford angioplasty and bypass surgery
    <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n


    2. \u00a0\u00a0Patients who have suffered \/ suffer from myocardial infarction (heart attacks)<\/p>\n

    3. \u00a0\u00a0Heart Failure patients who:
    <\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      Have ejection fraction of <40%
      <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Have ischaemic or idiopathic cardiomyopathy
      <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Have co-morbid conditions that increase the risk of complications of revascularization procedures.
      <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Diabetic patients who have a greater risk for post-procedural complications. (due to small vessel disease)
      <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Elderly patients at high risk for morbidity and mortality associated with invasive coronary interventions
      <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n


      ECP can also be performed on patients who want to undergo treatment as a prophylactic (preventative) procedure to ensure a healthy lifestyle. <\/p>\n

      Contraindications<\/p>\n

      • \n

        Severe arrhythmias
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Bleeding diathesis
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Active thrombophlebitis
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Severe lower extremity vascular occlusive disease
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Presence of a documented aortic aneurysm requiring surgical repair
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Pregnancy
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Severe pulmonary hypertension\/oedema (pulmonary artery > 50 mm Hg)
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Uncontrolled systemic hypertension (> 180\/110 mm Hg)
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Severe aortic insufficiency
        <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Warfarin therapy with INR>3.0
