{"id":107,"date":"2015-04-08T09:17:10","date_gmt":"2015-04-08T09:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/counterpulsation.co.za\/cpl\/?page_id=107"},"modified":"2015-04-08T10:45:05","modified_gmt":"2015-04-08T10:45:05","slug":"indications-contra-indications","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/counterpulsation.co.za\/cpl\/indications-contra-indications\/","title":{"rendered":"Indications &#038; Contra Indications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\"><b>Indications<\/b><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\"><br \/>\n1. \u00a0\u00a0Patients with angina equivalents who:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Are considered inoperable or at high risk of operative \/ interventional complications.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Suffer from micro vascular angina (cardiac syndrome X)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Have coronary anatomy unsuitable for catheter-<wbr \/>based or surgical revascularization.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Have co-<wbr \/>morbid conditions \/ illnesses that increase the risk of revascularization procedures (e.g. Diabetes, heart failure, pulmonary disease, renal dysfunction)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Have Left Ventricular Dysfunction (LVD) with an Ejection Fraction &lt;35%<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Are unwilling to undergo additional invasive revascularization procedures.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">No longer respond to medical therapy.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Restrict their activities to avoid angina.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Cannot afford angioplasty and bypass surgery<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\"><br \/>\n2. \u00a0\u00a0Patients who have suffered \/ suffer from myocardial infarction (heart attacks)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3. \u00a0\u00a0Heart Failure patients who:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Have ejection fraction of &lt;40%<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Have ischaemic or idiopathic cardiomyopathy<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Have co-<wbr \/>morbid conditions that increase the risk of complications of revascularization procedures.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Diabetic patients who have a greater risk for post-<wbr \/>procedural complications. (due to small vessel disease)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Elderly patients at high risk for morbidity and mortality associated with invasive coronary interventions<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\"><br \/>\nECP can also be performed on patients who want to undergo treatment as a prophylactic (preventative) procedure to ensure a healthy lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\"><b>Contraindications<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Severe arrhythmias<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Bleeding diathesis<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Active thrombophlebitis<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Severe lower extremity vascular occlusive disease<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Presence of a documented aortic aneurysm requiring surgical repair<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Pregnancy<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Severe pulmonary hypertension\/oedema (pulmonary artery &gt; 50 mm Hg)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Uncontrolled systemic hypertension (&gt; 180\/110 mm Hg)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Severe aortic insufficiency<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"cf3 ff2 fs20\">Warfarin therapy with INR&gt;3.0<b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indications 1. \u00a0\u00a0Patients with angina equivalents who: Are considered inoperable or at high risk of operative \/ interventional complications.
